IPSE Make Up Or Break Up? #3: Abdul Hakim Shabazz and Gary Welsh.

OBSERVATION: The third installment to Make Up or Break Up (MUBU) will ask the burning question we all think about after hearing about political dust ups made public this time by between our various bloggers "Will they ever get back together?".   In this case it involves current blogger of Indiana Barrister and radio host Abdul Hakim Shabazz and local attoney/blogger Gary Welsh of Advance Indiana.  Now this should be interesting.

All you need to do is cast your vote using the agree/disagree buttons at the bottom of each posts if you believe there will be any reconciliation between the selected individuals. If you think our blogging couple will start over press "agree". If you think that things are forever broken then press "disagree". Remember the power is in your hands. Now its time for all of us to see if these two will ever kiss and make up.

  1. ROFLMAO!!!!!! Now you've do it Ipse!!!!

  2. Threesomes rarely work as someone always gets left out in the cold. In this case it would be Gary Welsh since Abdul is already head over heels in love with himself.

    ReplyDelete
  3. WOW now that is a far out one.

It really wasn't all that long ago that Welsh and Hakim-Shabazz considered themselves friends. Abdul would post comments on his blog, Gary would appear on his morning show, and so on. But after the Indy Undercover stuff all came out, that all seemed to stop.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I also think Gary was pissed that Abdul was instumental in slamming the door on Welsh getting an appointment on the transition team. Abdul leaked to Joe Lofus that Gary was a bit of a loose cannon and that perhaps he (Abdul) could help steer policy from his radio show and blog more effectively that a single blogger with no other media outlet.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Abdul hates anyone that Tom John tells him to hate

    ReplyDelete
  6. Nice post Ipse! Love the concept, I can think of a lot of personalities I'd like to vote on.

    ReplyDelete
  7. How about Abdul and Beth White?

Surely she's forgiven him by now for loading spyware on her computer and intercepting her emails to Bart Peterson in the 2007 primaries. Come on Beth you're being too sensitive after all he did admit to you that he was an "arms dealer"!

    ReplyDelete
  8. So what happen to Indy's favorite Salt and Pepper Team?

    ReplyDelete
  9. IPSE,

of course you know I'm going to have to report you to Abdul. He's very protective of his image you know.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am a shameless media whore, so please feel free to continue to talk about me. And by the way, who needs spy software when a a freedom of information request can accomplish the same thing? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  11. @Abdul

    That's what she said!

    ReplyDelete
  12. So Abdul are you saying that you had absolutely had nothing to do with the SpectorPro software being placed on Beth White's computer prior to the 2007 primaries?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Boris, do you really think that you will get an answer from Tom Johns butt buddy?

Abdul does exactl;y what Tom John tells him to do. After all when youa re in the others wedding, there is a bond there forever.
However, the whole 1,200 people that listen to Abdul dont understand that fact.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Boris,

Let me explain this to you. I appreciate you guys think I'm sly enough to get into Beth's office, use her government computer, install spyware and get all her e-mails. However, if you fill out a open records request and submit it to a government office, they generally have to comply unless it deals with personnel, land acquisition or labor negotiations. You guys really should try it sometime.

And yes, Tom was in my wedding, it's no big secret, the pictures are on Facebook. So were Ryan Vaughn, Jeff White and Brad Klopfenstein. I don't discriminate.

And as far as the whole 1,200 people who listen to the show, we must be doing something right because we're making money and you guys listen otherwise you wouldn't be discussing me. Congrats on being in good company.

    Enjoy your lives, little people.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You are being too generous with your estimate of 1,200 listeners, anon. According to the Arbitron ratings I looked at last year, Abdul pretty much came in near the bottom of the talk news market in Indianapolis. If you extrapolated his total audience size from his audience share rating, it looks like he only has a few hundred daily listeners. WIBC's Morning Show with Terri Staci and Steve Simpson has everyone else beat by a mile. Even Amos Brown has several times the number of listeners as Abdul. My question for Abdul: Which of your good friends is not currently under investigation by the FBI? It says a lot about the person you've become.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey Boris,

Abdul never answered your question. ISPE can you make Abdul answer the question?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I can't comprehend how anybody could vote, agree.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Let's try this again...

    1. Sorry to disappoint you Boris, but I didn't plant spyware on Beth's computer. Anything I need from her office or any other one you can get using a FOIA request.

    2. Gary, you continue to amaze me. You understand radio ratings about as well you do emotional stability. When you look at radio ratings you are looking a the general universe of everyone 12+. That's not how radio is sold. We are all broken down by demographics, we do quite well with are demo which is men, 35-54. Secondly, it's unfortunate when public servants get caught up in situations that could have been avoided, but sometimes people don't listen to me. Now I know how you must feel on a daily basis when you go on your rants. I've never seen such a desperate cry from an "outsider" who wants to be an "insider." I recommend therapy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. wow, words of wisdom from Abdul. So who are the "people" who do not listen to you? Brizzi, Tom. So much knowledge crammed in such a squat little man. Funny how you beat the crap out of people who aren't your drinking buddies and dismiss your pals' "wondering interests" as "peccadillos".

And for such a "media whore" you sure are the sensitive...But I disgress.

Of course your own words on air in 2007 dispute your words here. As you referred to the "emails" obtained and stored on a disc where not collected by FOIA but by your "sources". You also read them on air. And of course sources who drink a lot tend to brag to anyone who will by them a drink. The rest is as we say history.

But hey if Beth is not offended then who are we to judge? As long as we know how the game is played when dealing with "an arms dealer". Of course arms dealing works both ways.

Good stuff that Spector Pro! :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. @boris,

maybe you are being unfair to Abdul. Maybe while out drinking he told Tom that trying to undermine candidate Ballard was a bad idea. Maybe he also told him not to cheat on his wife, divorce her and marry a woman who hasn't had a coherent idea since elementary school. And maybe he did try to dissuade these two that using him as an excuse to hang out with strippers made him uncomfortable...Maybe he told Brizzi that hanging out with playboy millionaires who claim to fame is bilking investors was not good for his career....and maybe monkeys will fly out my butt.

    ReplyDelete
  21. hey boris,

you're pretty good. Ever think of starting your own blog?

    ReplyDelete
  22. this is the same guy who mocks Garrison and Amos Brown? Newsflash Abbie while you may fantasize about Semulyan asking you to take over Garrison spot, trust me he is 1000 better that you can ever hope to be. And while you might think Amos is a clown, like Garrison he is committed in his belief unlike someone who puts his finger in the wind just to answer the cashiers question of "Paper or Plastic".

Gary is right this guy is on his last 30 seconds of his 15 minutes of fame.

    ReplyDelete
  23. While Garrison might be more listened to or get more in the ratings, he's a pretty poor talk show host. I find his show takes a lot more commercial breaks than others. I once took a stop watch and timed his opening segment at 9:06am. After the 2 minutes or so of intro music, he talked for four minutes (which includes 45 seconds of "hey, how ya doin, welcome to the garrison show blah blah blah"), then cut to commercial.

His words aren't that much better. He's a Limbaugh wannabe, but lacks Limbaugh's showmanship and humor.

On a technical note, FOIA act only covers the executive branch of the federal government. Indiana (and county, township, etc... governments) are covered by Indiana public records law.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hey Boris,

Couldn't help but notice that you seemed pretty confident in your information - down to the type of spyware (Spector Pro). So how confident are you?

    ReplyDelete
  25. becki,

While it's hard to determine who exactly anonymous posters are, this isn't the first time I've heard about it. Some commenter over at Indianapolis Times has also mentioned it.

On that note, boris, feel free to shoot me an e-mail. Just use the one listed in my blogger profile.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @ becki,

I'm about as sure as you can get on this issue. And if there's anyone who is a personal friend of Beth knows I'm telling the truth about the emails, it was saved on his disk and his line of questioning and over-the-top rant on his show during the primaries. Abdul knows the truth, Beth knows this happen and a couple of others in her office know about this issue but don't want to bring this up again. What you have here is a guy who claims to be a journalist of sorts but really just panders in gossip that he packages as reporting. It has become painfully to many political insiders that telling him anything of value is like writing on the bathroom wall.
He doesn't possess the professionalism or demeanor to be taken seriously. Either way this SpectorPro issue will not go away.

    @indy student - will do!

    ReplyDelete
  27. "And as far as the whole 1,200 people who listen to the show, we must be doing something right because we're making money and you guys listen otherwise you wouldn't be discussing me. Congrats on being in good company."

....I also look into the toilet after I take a dump but it doesn't mean I retain the image. Mr. Shabazz if you were as good as you think you are you wouldn't need 3 jobs to make ends meet...Just sayin...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Abdul, you might want to check your new Arb numbers, you dont even show up in adults 35+

You have no women that listen

Your listener income levels have fallen by 34% in the past 6 months.

You show no listeners south of US 40

You got passed over to be on the FM side

The gerbal that powers your flamethrower is running our of gas.

The local Disney station has better numbers than your .08 in the AQH

What to re-think your comments on me being wrong. Have one of your sales people teach you how to read a book... or dont you guys subscribe?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow,

For someone who doesn't matter you guys sure do like to talk about me. As I've said before there is no such thing as bad publicity. Please continue. Your little brains continue to amuse me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. So Boris why don't you share what you have with the authorities?

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Becki

I prefer the "October Surpise" strategy. When the time is right, the information will be leaked that will tie Abdul (and another person) directly to the SpectorPro spyware episode. I am a very patient person and can wait until the most opportune time for the maximum effect.

Let's see, tampering with government computers, wiretapping, intimidation of an elected offical. That ought to bring up those Arbitron ratings a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Boris! You da' man! Let me know if I can help you in any way. You are a hero to a lot of us who are tired of Brizzi/Tom John enablers.

    ReplyDelete
  33. well Boris, for someone with a little brain (me included) you sured did get his attention. Personally I think you may be on to something. Keep us posted.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ipse, I was at Patachou's downtown for lunch today and overheard two suits (by their conversation I could tell they were attorneys) anyway your blog is the talk of the town. Apparently your make up of break up postings generated a lot of interest especially the one about Abdul. I won't repeat what they said however let's just say it was far from flattering.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Abdul,

Not all publicity is good. When you have NO numbers, no one buys your station, when no one buys your station, there is no money to pay you.

When there is no money to pay you, you dont have a job, when you dont have a job you end up going to work for the MCRCC. Oh wait, you already do...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anon 9:24,

The MCRCC, according to their financial filings, are broke. They'd have to write Abdul an IOU. Pat Andrews of Had Enough Indy? and I discussed it at length in the comments section of a blog post a few months back. They were in the red, and Mayor Greg Ballard's re-election campaign committee (The MCRCC and mayor's campaign share the same office space, last I checked) loaned the MCRCC $3,000, according to Ballard's financial papers.

Interestingly enough, the Marion COunty Dems party was close to broke as well. I wonder if that's changed much with the primaries having occured.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's funny. We seem to be doing quite well, financially. You little brains continue to amuse me. Please continue.

    ReplyDelete
  38. can anyone post the Aribtron ratings here? I'd love to see the info for myself.

    ReplyDelete
  39. little brains....tsk,tsk,tsk....this is from a guy who 1) has to throw himself a birthday party in order to get someone to care. 2) can't help but mention he's going to the Columbia Club every chance he gets 3) must inform people that he's of drinking age (martini) and can smoke in public. Its like the guys can't help but glamorize what most of us thinks is normal activities of adulthood.

Waiting for him to announce he shaves in the morning. I kida' feel sorry for a guy who must go through all of this for attention. Please people pay attention to him and spare the rest of us from the torture of his grand pronouncements.

    ReplyDelete
  40. wow Curtis,

I thought I was the only one who felt like I was hearing a 20 year old college student's first itme away from home on the radio. Of course what I've done is make his show a drinking game via podcast. Every time he says "tada", "so what's your point?" "my lovely wife", "my good friend", "according to my sources" and of course "martini, Columbia Club, and cigar" have a shot.

Trust me not only will voice be less irritating, his onair vaudeville routine will sound funny (well maybe).

    ReplyDelete
  41. Abdul is paid through a third party to consult Ballard to avoid public disclosure. See Ballard's campaign finance reports and who is being paid to consult his campaign to discover who is writing checks to Abdul.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @anon 6:16,
Poor Ballard isn't getting his money's worth if the contract is anything over $1 per year. Abdul doesn't know enough about politics and policy to be a consultant. He's little more than a carnival barker with a law degree.

    ReplyDelete
  43. @anon 6:16,

Can you provide a link tot he report?

    ReplyDelete
  44. If this is true then Abdul has zero credibility on the radio. How can any Democratic elected or appointed offical go on his show or even sit at teh same bar with him?
Perhaps a better name for his show should be the Ballard informerical he really is...Abdul Hakim ShamWow!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Fact Checking:

The Marion County Democrats had $106,119.22 as of January 1, 2010. They raised $278,661.83 and spent $107,400.96 for a total on hand as of April 9, 2010 of $277,380.09. (Source: Marion County Clerk's Office: http://tinyurl.com/29q6337 WARNING: PDF).

In contrast, the Marion County Republican Party began the year with $9,796.80, raised $189,591.60 and spent $194,691.00 for a C.O.H. of $4,697.40. (Source: http://tinyurl.com/28p2uyk Indiana Campaign Finance)

Looking at Ballard's report, he shows a $15,000 debt owed to the campaign by the Marion County Republicans. (It IS NOT REPORTED AS OWED by the MCRCC on their report).

As for compensation paid to Abdul, the most likely expenditure Ballard had in 2009 (most recent data available) was a $10,000 per month contract with Jen Hallowell. Ms. Hallowell was paid 10K per month (except for an in-kind for December -- likely to allow Ballard to post one million on-hand). I don't think Hallowell and Hakim-Shabazz run in the same circles, mainly because Hallowell is talented. BUT Abdul could be a sub in a city contract. (Source of Ballard's Report (PDF): http://tinyurl.com/22p7rm3 )

Just look for the information, folks, it's out there.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Unfortunately Jen and Abdul did hang out together. They became friends while Jen was running Brizzi's campaign. Believe it or not, Abdul had somehow convince himself that Jen found him attractive and started bragging that he was "thisclose" to sleeping with her just before she left for the east coast. He was and continues to be a boorish moron.

    ReplyDelete
  47. So why do you people listen? You seem to know quite a bit. For someone who doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things you all sure do seem to spend a lot of time focusing on yours truly. Now I know how Jen Wagner felt. I got a better quality of critics.

    ReplyDelete
  48. My name is Gregg Ballerd and I approved the preceding message.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Did Abdul refer to his audience as "little people"?

    Yep, I think he did.

The "Little People" proved in 2007 that We have a whole lot of power.

    ReplyDelete
  50. folks ought to email this thread to Abdul's advertisers

    ReplyDelete
  51. Why would folks email to his advertisers? they pay him to be controversial. Welsh is a little gay fat boy that is shunned by all in power and throws fits over it. He wants to be an insider so bad he can taste it, but he is just not right. Abdul is annoying at times but he came to town and got in with powerful people. Not saying they are moral or right. So he has drinks with mayors, prosecutors, etc. That is better info than none at all.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't buy into the spyware issue being abdul. now I buy it even less since Boris dropped the "I have asecret and I am a genius and will let it go at right time" line. He also says someone else he will throw under bus. That is crap if that illegal stuff was done it would have already been exposed. I also have a secret, about someone we all know, about something big, will tell you all later, when I shock the universe I say!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Abdul is in the minority (again) if he was this close to sleeping with Jen. The majority actually did. Brizzi and TOJO did. Don't see an issue here though, she used to be smoking hot when they wre all in the blender. Now one is going to jail, one is a bisexual freak, one is running a dead man walking campaign. Used to be in power.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I would define a "loose canon" is one that cannot be controlled. I suppose you could say that about Gary Welsh.

In other words, I don't think that Gary Welsh could be controlled to the point that he would go the course of public corruption. I suppose that is why Brizzi would not want him on Ballard's transition team and ensured that the unpaid activists who did the hard work of getting Ballard elected (and who could not be coerced into public corruption) were not invited to be on the transition team.

Gary Welsh, a morally grounded whistle blower, is exactly the kind of guy we need inside watching the insiders.

Welsh is exactly the kind of guy the insiders strategize to keep out, for he would expose their corruption to the public.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anon 12:09, maybe Welsh lost a lot of weight recently due to his health problems. He was thin when I saw him a few weeks ago.

While I don't buy the spyware accusations, it's ironic people like Anon 12:12 is complaining about "I have a secret but I'm not going to tell you" tactic. Abdul pulls that all the time. When the Indy Underground stuff broke out about him and his relationship with the blog, he posted on Indiana Barrister that he was investigating a prominent local Democrat accused of "child sexual abuse." You can read this accusation here: http://www.indianabarrister.com/archives/2007/11/now_heres_something_that_doesnt_happen_everyday.html

Nothing ever came from it, and I read a quote on Ruth Holladay's blog from a LEO that if it was true, he should call the police instead of investigating it himself.

He's also cited statistics (you know, cold, hard numbers and facts) and then doesn't cite the poll that it came from. They were likely push polls, since almost every decent, unbiased polling company knows that good polls disclose as much information as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  56. As an aside, I also believe that the exposure Gary Welsh and Paul Ogden gave to the $15 million a year Pacers bailout is the biggest reason why the taxpayers have not yet been on the hook for that immoral deal.

Stay strong, guys. You are making a wreck of their very unpopulist plans.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Becki,

You can get the basics n the internet for Arbitron. However to get the detailed break out you must subscribe to Arbitron and it is very expensive.

BTW, Ballard loaned the MCRCC money to get Fishburn elected. You wil see it in the next financial report. The loan was made to the MCRCC and not directly to Fishburn, but you wil be able to match up the dates.

We have all seeen the Abduls of the world in the past.Little wanna bes that have an over inflated view of their capabilities.Abdul only answers to Tom John and Dave Brooks. He has the mayor convinced that people do listen to his staiton.

For someone who could not even pass the Indiana Bar I find him and his fudge packing little friends to be most amuseing

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anon,,,His advertisers know that he is a clown. But for $9 bucks a spot its not too bad of a deal.Bob and Tom have about 30X the audience. They are running about $500 at lease for a spot...Small little companies like Leon can afford Abdul. However Abdul can be replaced by an automated door knob with great ease

    ReplyDelete
  59. I never stated i had a secret, i merely said i can preferred to wait on making a disclosure. i do have a tape of his show and the corroborating evidence to back up what i'm saying. Also I'm not the only one who is aware of the SpectorPro spyware incident. Beth is aware as well as a couple of staffers from the Peterson adminstration. After that weekend there were conversations between White's office and Peterson as to how Abdul obtained his info. He was ballsie enough to actually quote from the email on the air. This is what sealed his fate with Bart. From that point forward he was persona non gratis with the Beth and the Mayor's office. They were pissed and embarrassed but didn't want to disrupt the election cycle so tried to put it behind them but make no mistake they knew who, how and what - that's how I know it was SpectorPro brand.
